Lemonade Day at Carmel City Center

seedfund-e1360867925138On Saturday, May 18, Lemonade Day will be happening across greater Indianapolis and as a sponsor in partnership with office tenant, Polleo Systems, Carmel City Center will be one of the many locations where young entrepreneurs will have their stands set up around the project. In celebration of the Lemonade Day event, Carmel City Center retailers will feature sidewalk sales and lemon-themed promotions at the stores and restaurants.

About Lemonade Day

In late 2009, Houston entrepreneur and native Hoosier Michael Holthouse asked local entrepreneur Scott Jones (www.scottajones.com) to bring this great program that he founded – Lemonade Day — to the Indianapolis area. This unique program teaches kids how to start, own and operate their own business: a lemonade stand.  Kids viscerally learn about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, philanthropy and much more. Scott agreed without hesitation to spearhead Lemonade Day in Indianapolis and started a new foundation – The Think Forward Foundation – to do it.  It was a huge commitment but he didn’t hesitate. Here’s why…

best-tasting-best-stand-contest-2

Today fewer and fewer kids are engaging in entrepreneurial activities like mowing lawns or starting lemonade stands. And yet many entrepreneurs talk about their early childhood experiences starting lemonade stands, or selling golf balls to empty-handed golfers, as the moment when the “light bulb went off.” The moment when they knew they could control their own destinies and possibly even change the world with their ideas. A lemonade stand did that for Scott, and he wants other kids to have that “light bulb” moment.

In celebration of Lemonade Day, Carmel City Center retailers and restaurants will be showcasing some of their “lemon” products throughout the day:

Addendum Gallery – Sidewalk Sale

Authentic Sports Collectibles – Sidewalk Sale

Bath Junkie – Special offer on all lemon fragranced products

The Bike Line – Sidewalk Sale

divvy – Showcasing its very tasty lemon desert

Holy Cow, Cupcakes! – Special lemon cupcakes and possible other lemon sweets

Jack & Jill Children’s Shoppe – Sidewalk sale with 30% off anything yellow clothing & Lemon Loves Lime clothing brand

Matt The Miller’s Tavern – Showcasing an “Adult Lemonade”

Rain Aveda Salon & Spa – Head in to try the refreshing Hand Relief lotion with a hint of lemon scent

Uber Boutique – Sidewalk Sale and have Lemon Verbena candles by Linnea’s Lights

This unique program teaches kids how to start, own and operate their own business: a lemonade stand. More information can be found on the Lemonade Day website atwww.indianapolis.lemonadeday.org

If your child is interested in setting up a stand at Carmel City Center, we are able to accommodate 5 lemonade stands and already have 4 spots filled. Please contact Michelle Krcmery at 317-703-4660 to secure the last of these spots.

Spring at Carmel City Center: Dressing Kids in Layers

Dressing yourself for the weather can be somewhat of a guessing game during the ever changing Spring months. An even bigger guessing game is dressing your kids for the weather to make sure they aren’t too cold throughout the day or don’t end up getting overheated as well. The perfect solution to this? Layering.

Dressing your kids in layers is one of the best ways to make sure that they will be comfortable and ready for any type of weather through out the day. One of the best clothing items for children of any age to wear is a light sweater or sweatshirt. By not having to wear a bulky jacket, a sweater is the perfect item that will be sure to keep them warm on those chilly mornings.

Check out some of our favorite outfits from Jack & Jill Children’s Shoppe that show just how cute layering can be for both boys and girls.

About the Author, Janet Myers

Janet Myers has been a health care professional for more than three decades. Through years of patient care, nursing leadership, and now as the Director of Risk and Safety, Janet has brought a rich diversity of health care knowledge and compassion to meeting patient needs. Her background, combined with her passion and work with dogs, has led to her mission of founding a successful pet therapy program. Her heightened awareness of the phenominal outco mes of this complementary avenue of care led her to create another pathway of therapy. In 2007, she and her four-legged friends began to do children’s sermons, first in her own church and then later in several other churches.

Janet is a recognized speaker on the subject of pet therapy, its impact on patient care, and the data that supports the animal-human bond. She and her dog, Bentley, work as a team in her speaking engagements, as they share their heart-warming journey to the bedsides of patients. Together they spread their message to dog lovers, health care providers, and families whose loved ones might benefit from this pace-setting program.

Her therapy dogs’ ability to understand and meet the needs of the patients they “visit” is complemented by Myers’ dog training capabilities. By teaching her dogs an array of patient bedside dog tricks and applying them with her understanding of patient needs, she and her beloved furry companions have “raised the bar” in pet therapy.
